Homeless Hotspots

According to an article published today (03/12/2012) in the New York Daily News, BBH Labs is testing a concept called "Homeless Hotspots" at this year's South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

Read up on the concept - pros and cons - and share your thoughts in the comments.  This will count as a portion or your blog grade for you March 20th blog.

I for one thinks its a great idea. It engages the homeless to talk to random civilized people. Perhaps these business transactions will develop to nice conversations that could possibly have some kind of influence on them. Keeping the homeless working also keeps them from doing any further nonsense, and keeps them spending which will definitely help the economy some. This is the same thing as having homeless trying to sell newspapers really, and only exploit to this that i can imagine would be the parent company robbing/using these people for cheap labor.

I think this is crazy! Why would you want a "homeless hotspot". I would be scared, if nothing else, the security issues or insecurity. As far as giving the homeless a job, if they want a job let the BBH Labs give them shirts advertising their business and services, or got to the unemployment office and apply.

I think it is kind of nice to at least try to help the helpless. I would think that most of the homeless would just do whatever they could to get money. But this is kind of stupid because Homeless Hotspots are just getting the involved with something that is probably just short-term and in the mean-time they are getting use to something that will not last long enough for them to make any progress at anything but help pay for their room and board at the homeless shelters they are staying at. It doesn't really give the money to go out and be able to buy themselves clothes, shoes, or anything else they would like to buy for themselves. Because that would cause a problem also, because if they were to go out and buy things for themselves they would stolen buy the other homeless people that didn't get a chance to do any of this stuff to make any money. I really believe that by them doing or having these Homeless Hotspots will in the long run cause more problems than they will solve.

I believe that as far as a job is concerned it’s a great idea because when you’re homeless, do you really care how you get to eat, as long as you get to eat? As for the people using the network…STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!!!! If you get on a network, and you THINK it is secure, you tend to do anything you want on it. News flash to the ignorant…. If I get on the same “secure” network, I can hack your computer with little effort. So, great for the homeless, not so bright for the users.
